Polylithic Beginner Guide
Polylithic begins as a third-person Stone Age survival game and gradually expands into tribe and settlement management. Early progress is about keeping your character supplied, gathering useful materials, crafting essential equipment, exploring safely, and preparing for the point where a permanent settlement becomes more valuable than constant roaming.
Secure Food and Basic Materials
Gather nearby food and common natural materials before traveling far. Maintaining a reliable supply of essentials gives you enough freedom to explore, hunt, and craft without repeatedly interrupting progression.
Turn gathered materials into the basic tools and equipment needed for more efficient survival. Early crafting opens access to better gathering, hunting, and further technology progression.
Hunting becomes an important source of food and useful animal materials. Prepare collected food instead of relying only on whatever can be gathered immediately around your current position.
Explore Before Settling
Use the early nomadic phase to explore the procedurally generated world and locate useful environments and resource-rich areas. A good settlement location should support both immediate survival and future tribe expansion.
Invest in Technology
Progress through new technologies as resources become available. Technology upgrades expand what you can craft and eventually support the transition from individual survival to organized settlement life.
Once you can reliably provide food, materials, and equipment, begin focusing on settlement development and tribespeople. The long-term goal is to replace constant manual survival work with an increasingly organized tribe.
Quick Tips
- Keep a small food reserve before every long exploration trip.
- Cook gathered food instead of eating raw supplies whenever possible.
- Watch your surroundings before engaging wildlife you have not met before.
- Scout multiple candidate locations before committing to a settlement site.

Polylithic Resources and Exploration Guide
Polylithic takes place in a procedurally generated prehistoric world containing forests, hills, rivers, wildlife, and other natural environments. Exploration is not only about discovering new areas: it is how you locate the food, raw materials, animals, and suitable settlement locations required for continued progression.
Food Resources
Keeps the player and growing tribe supplied. Maintain a dependable food supply before committing resources to rapid settlement expansion.
Basic Natural Materials
Used for primitive tools, equipment, and early construction. Gather common materials continuously during early exploration because they feed multiple crafting and technology systems.
Animal Resources
Provide food and additional materials obtained through hunting. Hunt when the expected food and materials justify the time and equipment required.
Forests
Exploration area containing vegetation, natural materials, and wildlife. Useful during the early gathering phase and when searching for resources near a potential settlement.
Rivers
Important natural landmarks when exploring the generated world. Use rivers and surrounding terrain to evaluate areas before establishing a more permanent base.
Hills and Open Terrain
Provide additional exploration space and access to resources beyond forested regions. Explore beyond the immediate starting area once basic survival supplies and equipment are secure.
Settlement Resources
Support construction, technology progression, and the needs of a larger tribe. Stockpile commonly used resources before major village expansion so new development does not interrupt basic survival.
Polylithic Hunting and Animals Guide
Hunting is an important source of food and materials during the hunter-gatherer stage of Polylithic. Players must decide which animals are worth pursuing, avoid dangerous encounters when poorly equipped, and make effective use of companions such as dogs and hyenas.
Small Prey
Use smaller animals to secure food while limiting the risk and resource cost of early hunts. They are useful targets before your character and tribe are prepared for larger wildlife.
Large Wildlife
Larger animals provide more valuable hunting opportunities but require better preparation. Bring suitable weapons, manage stamina, and avoid committing to a chase when survival resources are already low.
Dangerous Predators
Predators can turn routine gathering trips into dangerous encounters. Keep escape routes open and avoid unnecessary combat when carrying valuable supplies or traveling far from a settlement.
Mammoths
Mammoths represent the largest animals encountered in Polylithic and should be approached as major hunting targets rather than ordinary prey. Coordinated preparation is especially useful before engaging them.
Dogs
Dogs can accompany the player during exploration and hunting. Keep companions fed and healed, and use their available commands to manage their behavior during travel and encounters.
Hyenas
Hyenas can also become useful companions. Maintaining their health and food while controlling their actions makes them valuable support during dangerous trips away from the tribe.
Polylithic Farming and Neolithic Progression
The long-term progression of Polylithic follows humanity's transition from Paleolithic hunting and gathering into Neolithic settlement. Players begin by personally gathering necessities and eventually establish a more stable community with farming, buildings, workers, and increasingly organized resource production.
Survive as Hunter-Gatherers
Start by gathering food and raw materials directly from the environment. Hunting, exploration, crafting, and keeping basic needs satisfied are the main priorities.
Collect enough food and construction materials to reduce the need for constant emergency gathering. Better resource stability makes longer-term settlement planning possible.
Choose a useful location and begin developing a village instead of relying entirely on a mobile hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Buildings provide the foundation for organized tribal life.
Develop Farming
Agriculture becomes part of the tribe's food economy as progression moves toward the Neolithic era. Farming helps support a more permanent population and reduces dependence on hunting alone.
Organize Tribal Work
As the settlement grows, tribespeople can contribute to the community through assigned work. Balancing labor, food, materials, and individual needs becomes increasingly important.
Expand the Village
Use stable production to support additional structures, more tribespeople, and broader settlement development. The gameplay focus increasingly shifts from individual survival to managing an emerging civilization.
Polylithic Co-op Multiplayer Guide
Co-op turns Polylithic's survival and tribe-building systems into a shared experience. A group can divide responsibilities instead of having every player gather, hunt, craft, and build independently, making coordinated expansion much easier.
Polylithic Achievements Guide
Polylithic includes 15 Steam achievements that naturally overlap with the game's main systems, including surviving in the wilderness, exploring the world, hunting animals, developing a tribe, and building a permanent settlement. Progress through multiple systems rather than focusing only on the main survival loop.
Progression
Advancing through Polylithic's prehistoric progression systems. Continue developing technology, tribal capabilities, and settlement systems instead of remaining at the basic hunter-gatherer stage.
Exploration
Discovering and interacting with the game world. Explore beyond the immediate settlement area and combine resource trips with broader map exploration.
Survival
Managing food, resources, crafting, and character needs. Maintain stable supplies and engage with the full survival loop rather than relying on only one source of food or materials.
Hunting
Hunting wildlife and interacting with animal systems. Hunt different types of wildlife as your equipment improves and prepare carefully before pursuing the largest or most dangerous animals.
Tribe
Developing and managing tribespeople. Recruit and support tribe members while using the game's work and management systems as the community expands.
Settlement
Building and expanding a permanent village. Develop the settlement beyond basic shelter by expanding structures, production, and the systems needed to support a growing tribe.
